Solvent pop or pinholes should be assessed by a professional body shop when they are widespread, deep, visible across several panels or accompanied by bubbling, softness, hazing or poor adhesion. A few shallow marks may sometimes be corrected after the clear coat has fully cured, but deeper cavities can extend through the clear coat towards […]

Clear coat that peels or wrinkles after a repaint usually indicates an adhesion, material-compatibility, preparation or solvent-reaction problem, and polishing will not repair the failed layers. Peeling occurs when the clear coat no longer bonds reliably to the basecoat or existing finish. Wrinkling can develop when fresh solvents attack an underlying coating or when incompatible […]

If your new 2K clear coat remains soft or tacky beyond the specified curing period, stop touching or polishing it and return the vehicle to the refinishing workshop for inspection. The symptom may indicate an incorrect clear-to-hardener ratio, omitted or unsuitable activator, incompatible thinner, excessive solvent, low curing temperature or insufficient time between coats. Normal […]

The cost of repairing clear-coat runs and sags depends on whether they can be levelled and polished or whether the affected panel must be sanded and resprayed. Malaysian body shops normally need to inspect the size, depth and location of the defect before providing a reliable quotation. A small run on a flat door may […]

Orange peel can usually be corrected by controlled wet sanding and machine polishing, but severe texture may require the panel to be sanded and clear-coated again. A body shop’s charge in Malaysia will depend on the affected area, clear-coat thickness, panel shape, paint condition and whether refinishing is necessary. A lightly textured bonnet may only […]

Cloudy 2K clear coat can be polished clear only when the haze is confined to the fully cured surface and sufficient clear-film thickness remains. Respraying is usually required when whitening is within the coating or results from trapped moisture, solvent, contamination, poor basecoat flash-off or incompatible materials. Polishing before diagnosis may reduce film thickness without […]

Clear-coat delamination requires a full panel repaint when peeling is widespread, continues beyond the visible edge or leaves no stable boundary for a durable local repair. A full repaint is also appropriate when removing failed clear exposes or damages the basecoat across much of the panel. One isolated defect may sometimes be repaired locally, but […]

A body shop distinguishes poor preparation from incompatible paint by examining where the coating separated, reviewing the products and application sequence, and testing adhesion on affected and unaffected areas. Peeling at a contaminated or unsanded surface points towards preparation problems, while lifting, wrinkling or separation between otherwise clean layers may indicate chemical incompatibility or an […]

The cost of correcting runs or sags in fresh 2K clear coat depends on whether the defect can be levelled and polished or whether the panel must be sanded and resprayed. A workshop cannot provide a reliable figure without inspecting the depth, location and curing condition of the run. Your quotation may include abrasive preparation, […]

2K Auto Clear High Solid D80 can remain soft or sticky when the clear and hardener are mixed in the wrong 2:1 ratio, inadequately blended, applied too heavily or cured below the specified temperature. An incorrect or unsuitable hardener may also prevent proper cross-linking. Because D80 is described as slow drying, a recently sprayed panel […]
